Josiah Warren

Publisher: McGraw-Hill/Irwin
Once every decade a book comes along that becomes the standard in a field of study, the indispensable reference that every thoughtful practitioner must have on the shelf. Like Samuelson in Economics, Drucker in Management, and Porter in Strategy, Rayport and Jaworski have written what leaders in the New Economy are calling the standard in e-commerce strategy formulation. <“Rayport and Jaworski have defined the ‘space'. e-Commerce is a primary weapon in the e-business frontier. Do not let your competitors read this book—buy every copy…” Jeff Taylor, Founder and CEO, Monster.com> >“Finally someone has put it all together! These leading thinkers have put in one place a brilliant and comprehensive framework for thinking through, planning, teaching and managing e-Business. And – beyond that – this book is a portal to a stream of the most complete set of online, video, and other resources for e-Business learning to date. Great insights. Powerful tools.” Ralph Oliva, Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of Business Markets and Professor of Marketing, Pennsylvania State University> <“e-Commerce is the first textbook to show how firms gain competitive advantage in the New Economy. The authors introduce a number of new and innovative concepts, frameworks, and tools that benefit both students and managers. This book is destined to become the standard New Economy text in leading MBA programs.” John Quelch, Dean, London Business School> <“This is a wonderfully designed pedagogical device. The chapters build foundationally, so as to empower the student to deal with unique New Economy concepts, like the DCF approach to valuation etc., towards the end. The chapters are filled with case vignettes, viewpoints, and thought bytes that draws the self-selected reader in, and engages them in a sophisticated debate regarding the Internet economy. The highlight of the book, for me, was the way linkages were provided to existing management concepts. Thus the reader is not left wondering what the connection to the old paradigm is, in fact the reader gets a working dose of those ideas in the book chapters. This makes the book a stand-alone, comprehensive text with a cutting-edge tone and content.” Kastori Rangan, Eliot I. Snider and Family Professor of Business Administration Harvard Business School>

Do you know anyone who does not own a mobile device? Consumers use mobile devices not only for communicating but for shopping as well. Searching for product information, inquiring about services, comparing prices, and purchasing make-up are just some of the shopping functions done on mobile devices. How does this change how firms do business? What are the differences between desktop computer shoppers and mobile device shoppers? Moreover, are firms prepared to do business in this changing environment? The purpose of this book is to answer questions concerning the benefits of mobile commerce and its commonalities and contrasts with electronic commerce. Electronic commerce is still viable and we examine its validity along with mobile commerce. Mobile commerce is not electronic commerce, and we discuss the differences, as well as how one can enhance the other. Consumers use both electronic commerce and mobile commerce, as well as offline shopping, on their path to purchase in total omnichannel environment-using all channels. We integrate the opportunities and challenges to bring an idea of the future of marketing with an emphasis on both mobile and electronic commerce, into digital commerce.

A comprehensive coverage of technology and processes behind e-commerce and e-governance At the time of the publication of the first edition of this book, the Internet was seen as a formidable force. It portended to disrupt and transform almost all facets of life; the way we lived and worked, the way commerce was conducted and the way governments would provide services to their citizens. E-commerce was largely seen as the vehicle to propel and accelerate these changes. Most of these changes have occurred, despite the bursting of the Internet bubble after a period of big hype in the year 2000. E-Commerce has weathered many challenges and continues to grow. Now businesses and economies accept that e-commerce is here to stay. New business models are being tried and tested, along with novel methods for exploiting the Internet to make businesses survive and thrive in the highly competitive e-marketplace. The revised edition of this highly successful book captures the essence of the momentous changes that were witnessed in the last six years. Content, which is no longer relevant, has been deleted, while some of the chapters have been rewritten in entirety. New chapters have been added to address the major developments in e-governance, incidence of cyber crimes and their mitigation and the legal framework for enabling trust in the electronic environment. E-Commerce: The Cutting Edge of Business presents the technology and processes behind e-commerce and e-governance. It also underscores the importance of security of transactions in the electronic environment. With such an extensive coverage, the book will be useful to people in trade and commerce and to businesses which are trying to expand using Internet and intranet commerce. Students and teachers of e-commerce will find that the technology and processes that make e-commerce click have been addressed in detail. The book will also be of enormous value to government officials, financial institutions, public sector and the private industry keen to learn about 'The Cutting Edge of Business'.

Matthew Engelhart; Terces Engelhart
Published: 20111025
ISBN: 158394480X
Publisher: Random House Publishing Services
In this timely book, authors Matthew and Terces Engelhart present the idea that love before appearances is the antidote to our spiritual, environmental, and social degradation. Exploring topics such as mission statements, manager as coach, human resources as a sacred culture, and inspirational meetings, they offer a manual for building a spiritual community at the workplace—a vital concept in an age when work consumes the bulk of most adults’ time. Business, the authors explain, is all about providing a service, product, or experience the market wants, and no business can succeed by failing to understand this point. However, integrating the concept of “Sacred Commerce” into business can provide both financial success and spiritual satisfaction. Stressing that every business is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of both clients and employees, the Engelharts share the tools they’ve learned in their own enterprises to fulfill this vision. Sacred Commerce is the ideal mix of the personal and the practical—a guidebook written by people who have felt success, not just spent it. Dissatisfaction with work is at record levels, and the Engelharts show that you don’t have to suffer personally—or give up your humanity—to pay the mortgage.
